The Raw Material Bank/Yarn Depot of Manipur Apex Handloom (AWAS) serves as a vital lifeline for the state’s traditional weavers and artisans. Its core mission is to ensure the uninterrupted supply of quality raw materials—including various counts of cotton, silk, woolen, and blended yarns, as well as dyes and chemicals—at reasonable and subsidized prices. By eliminating dependency on middlemen and mitigating price volatility, the Depot empowers thousands of weavers, particularly those in remote areas and co-operative societies, to maintain consistent production, preserve the unique textile heritage of Manipur, and secure a sustainable livelihood. It acts as a central hub for backward linkage support under various government schemes.
